EECP - Enhanced External Counterpulsation |
|
Magnolia Health Systems is the only entity in the area offering EECP (Enhanced External Counterpulsation) to heart patients with coronary disease and chest pain.
EECP is a novel method of using blood pressure cuffs that augment the heart beat that when placed on the leg and synchronized to the heart beat makes it much easier for the heart to pump and also augments blood flow to the coronary arteries. It is clear why this would be beneficial while the procedure is being done, but it is unclear why the benefit is so long lasting, yet it is. In clinical trials 72% of patients with severe angina improved to no or mild angina and over half the patients were able to totally discontinue the use of nitroglycerine. EECP is a totally noninvasive procedure involving no needles and only the application of blood pressure cuffs to the legs that are inflated and deflated in synchrony with the heart beat. Prior to Magnolia Health Systems offering this treatment, patients were required to drive to Tyler, Houston or Dallas to receive this benefit from this innovative care. |
